Positioned inland from Geraldton in the Murchison region of WA, Yalgoo is an outback country town with a love for gold prospecting.
So much so that Shire Works Foreman Ray Pratt had the idea of organising a designated legal prospecting area for tourists, which the Council gave the go-ahead.
“It’s been a success story from the start” says Ray. “All we ask is that they bring a miner’s right which gives them permission to go detecting and have a bit of knowledge of maps”.
“If people want any additional information on this they can go to the Shire's website or they can come to the caravan park, we don't mind helping people and showing them what to do” he says.
